    Employee Performance Evaluation

During the past week I was grumbling a little because I believe some people in my org don't take their self-assessment serious enough. I don't understand how somebody can take a leave just before year end, and not having his/her act together. If an employee doesn't feel responsible for his own career, why should anybody else care?

Anyway, today I dived into a great conversation, related to the question if a manager can do a proper calibration of his staff, even when the staff hasn't yet completed their self-assessments. A helpful quote from a DevLead:

" ... managing performance is not secondary to managing some development project -- it is what makes everything else successful, so it is worth doing well."

Very true, and I don't see any difference between development, consulting, sales, or any other discipline.
